Family Learning Action Group
The Family Learning Action Group, run in partnership with the Southwark Family Learning Forum, will examine the actions needed to make the `Learning Families: A New Approach for Southwark` strategy a reality.

A number of key issues have already been identified in making family learning more accessible to potential learners in Southwark. There is evidence that family learning can overcome difficulties associated with a disadvantaged background for both parents and children. Without family support, a child~s formal education is an uphill struggle. Family learning schemes are often a second chance for parents, and grandparents, to return to learning, creating a host of fresh opportunities to pursue previously thwarted ambitions.

Family learning covers all forms of informal and formal learning that involve more than one generation. `Family` members can include friends as well as family, reflecting the range of support relationships that individuals rely on in the twenty-first century.

The objectives and recommendations of the `Learning Families: A New Approach for Southwark` strategy are currently under review and open to consultation. Your feedback is welcome.

Please note that unfortunately no further content will be published to the SNLL website after 1st April 2005 pending negotiations on forward funding. In the meantime you may wish to check the Central London Learning Partnership (CLLP) website at www.cllp.org.uk for the latest news, events and resources relating to lifelong learning in central London.
